Council Member Cabán asks Sam from Denver's STAR program about their data collection and publication practices. Sam explains that they collect various demographic data, including veteran and housing status, as well as mental health diagnoses. They use this data to improve their response and better serve the community.

  • Denver collects comprehensive demographic data
  • Data is used to inform and improve community response
  • Published reports include heat maps of response locations and referral destinations

And then my my next question is for Sam.
3:45:14
And I I just wanna point out, Sam, that I actually got to visit y'all, and I got to go into one of your vans and meet the some of the members of the Denver Star teams, and y'all just do incredible, incredible work.
3:45:27
So thank you for that and also, you know, thank you for local progress for making those connections.
3:45:33
Also help us invite people to testify here today from around the country.
3:45:36
That's why you're hearing from some of these folks.
3:45:39
I can you talk a little bit about some of the data that y'all collect and publish?
3:45:44
Like, what what are the different data points metrics and and kinda how you then use that data to improve the work you've been doing over time?
Sam Rabins
3:45:53
Great question, and that's super glad that you had an opportunity to come visit Denver and visit our STAR program as well.
3:46:00
Yes, we collect an array of data here in Denver.
3:46:04
We collect all of our demographics as much as we are able.
3:46:08
And we also collect veteran status, houseless status.
3:46:13
We're also collecting if there is a mental health diagnosis, we are that information as well.
3:46:19
We are consistently relooking at our data to see what needs to be collected, what's important, and then how do we use that data to identify our response in the community?
3:46:29
How can we, from a DEA perspective, better respond to the community even more fruitfully than we already are, and how can we use the data to better inform where we're serving people as well as how we're referring people to the next step.
Tiffany Cabán
3:46:44
And you guys, if I'm not mistaken, because I've looked at your published reports, you guys so publish like heat maps on where you're finding that you're responding to the most or you're publishing where you're taking people to, whether it's an emergency room or some other places.
3:46:57
That's also being collected and published as well.
3:47:00
Right?
3:47:00
Alright.
3:47:01
Great.
3:47:01
Thank you.
