- There are about 30 to 40 adversarial discharges of firearms out of the 9 million calls.
- Levin shares a success story of CIT-trained officers talking down a person in emotional distress from a bridge.
- He emphasizes NYPD's commitment to CIT training, stating that all recruits now receive this training.

Cher, can I just follow-up on something you had asked earlier, data wise for NYPD?
3:03:30
And I think this actually ties into your question recently about the effectiveness of CIT trainings.
3:03:35
Just zooming the camera out a little bit, 9,000,000, 911 calls approximately every year.
3:03:41
Looking at use of force reports for NYPD, only 1700 times has force been used on somebody who was designated as emotionally disturbed person.
3:03:51
Okay?
3:03:52
What I wanna emphasize is in a vacuum, 1700 does sound like 1700 more than it should ever be.
3:04:00
I I we trust me.
3:04:01
We we got that.
3:04:02
But 9,000,000 calls approximately 180,000 so EDP.
3:04:07
Some of those are same calls for the same person.
3:04:10
Right?
3:04:11
And then the second thing I wanted to say is 30 to 40 adversarial discharges of firearms for those 9,000,000 calls.
3:04:21
Right?
3:04:22
And the last thing I wanted to say is that in regards to the effectiveness of the crisis intervention training, there was an incident, I believe, was in June, March, maybe, June.
3:04:33
There was somebody who was exhibiting signs of extreme emotional distress, and they were It looked like maybe possibly going to jump off of a bridge.
3:04:43
And 5 officers came up to that person, 4 out of 5 of them were trained in CIT, and they talked them down off of the bridge, and it was a positive resolution.
3:04:55
And so we believe in this training, you heard chief Obates.
3:04:59
We have and council member, come on, I she talked about peer evaluators.
3:05:05
Right?
3:05:05
CIT has a peer panel.
3:05:07
People who have experienced these crises come in and actually talk to the recruits.
3:05:12
All recruits get this training going forward.
3:05:14
One of the questions you had earlier was, will PD commit to a policy where We send people with CIT training.
3:05:22
Yes.
3:05:22
Because the goal is to have every single person trained with CIT training, and it's going to happen.
3:05:27
Right?
3:05:27
Every recruits getting it.
3:05:28
So I wanted to give you that one data point that you asked for before we walked out.
3:05:32
So and it kind of dove tailed into your other question.
