Scott McLeod emphasizes the importance of investing in community engagement and awareness beyond just the voting process. He discusses how this approach naturally leads to increased civic participation.
- Libraries focus on making both adults and young people aware of larger societal issues
- Topics covered include poverty, child welfare, and other community concerns
- Increased awareness of these issues correlates with higher engagement in voting and civic activities
- The approach encourages people to get involved in community boards, civic associations, and local government

Yeah.

I couldn't let them.
0:48:27
Just keep going.
0:48:28
I have to throw one in.

The other part of this is and I'll speak to our teams, but I think this is also true for our adults.
0:48:36
And that is investing in their awareness of things beyond sort of the voting process.
0:48:45
And so high community engagement and awareness.
0:48:49
And so what we've done and I think all of us have spoken about this.
0:48:52
With our adults, with our young people is making them more aware of some of those larger issues, whether that is poverty, whether that is child welfare, you know, getting them involved or thinking about what's going on, what they see every day, and how that affects them.
0:49:13
And so being able to get them invested in those types of issues, there's a natural correlation between that and now being able to do something at the in the voting booth.

And and not just the voting booth, but also looking at things like the community boards and the civic associations and the city council.
0:49:34
And so getting people really invest in what's going on around them in a lot of different ways will naturally sort of direct them to well, now that I know about it, what can I do about it?
