Commissioner Do provides an update on the recovery of the TLC-regulated industry, focusing on trip volumes across different sectors compared to pre-COVID levels. He highlights the industry's overall recovery and the availability of detailed data.

  • TLC licensed vehicles now complete between 22-25 million trips per month, the highest since before COVID
  • High-volume sector (Uber, Lyft) at 90% of 2019 levels, yellow taxis at 50%, and non-high volume for-hire vehicles at 71%
  • Introduces the TLC Factbook, a new data dashboard reflecting TLC's commitment to transparency

As is typical when I've appeared before this committee, I'll start with a general update on the TLC regulated industry.
1:17:08
As a whole, TLC licensed vehicles now complete between 22,25,000,000 trips per month, the highest level of activity since before COVID.
1:17:19
In August of 2024, the high volume sector that's left in Uber completed over 18,000,000 trips, about 90% of 2019 levels, and yellow taxis completed nearly 3,000,000 trips, about 50% of the August 2019 trip count.
1:17:36
Additionally, non high volume for higher vehicles completed 1,300,000 trips in July of 2024, 71% of their 2019 levels.

Similar recoveries can be seen through other metrics.
1:17:49
Including vehicle and driver counts.
1:17:51
All the data that I just referenced in much more can be found on TLC's new data dashboard called the TLC factbook, reflecting TLC's commitment through transparency.
