Council Member Susan Zhuang raises concerns about the high traffic in the area and asks about specific plans to address this issue. Ken Fisher and Jay Valgora explain their approach to traffic management and the transit-oriented nature of the development.

  • Parking entrances are designed to code, following Department of Transportation and Department of Buildings rules.
  • The environmental assessment did not identify a need for significant traffic mitigation measures.
  • The project is transit-oriented, with immediate access to multiple train stations.
  • New public spaces and pedestrian connections are created to alleviate sidewalk congestion.

And also when we talk about parking, that area has high traffic that's high traffic area.
0:40:38
Is there any spatial plan you guys have for that issue?
Ken Fisher

The parking entrances are designed to code and there's, you know, department transportation, department of buildings has rules for that.
0:40:53
We haven't developed any special parking plan because there was no significant impact identified in our environmental review.
0:41:01
But we do have Philip Habib as our environmental consultant, then they're one of the leading traffic engineers in the city.
0:41:07
And if they have any recommendations about queuing, or signaling or whatever, you know, will they'll make them available to us.
0:41:17
But the environmental the environmental assessment did not identify a need for signal changes or other things has a significant impact.
Jay Valgora

We could just add that the project is transit oriented, and so it has immediate access to a number of train stations as well as other transit assets.
0:41:34
And so we work hard in order to make sure that we do developments in transit bridge areas as this site is And then finally, it's really important because this is a neighborhood that is crowded, and there's a lot of people on the sidewalks.
0:41:45
And so that's part of the reason we created significant new public spaces and pedestrian connections through the site.
0:41:52
Actually weren't required, but we created pedestrian links to allow people to sort of, you know, get off the busy sidewalks or not conflict with cars for, you know, parents with children and so forth.
0:42:03
And that was a essential part of the design strategy.
