HRA officials discuss plans to expand the capacity of the domestic violence shelter system in New York City:
- An RFP is being prepared to add 94 new emergency shelter beds by the end of the year
- The expansion focuses on serving single adult households and LGBTQ survivors
- While the facilities can't exclusively serve single adults due to state requirements, there is a special emphasis on these populations
- The expansion is partly replacing previously lost beds but with a new focus on single adults
- The plan is informed by input from providers and the community
- This expansion addresses a specific need for more capacity for single adults and LGBTQ survivors in the DV shelter system

Actually, deputy speaker, Yala.

We are actually in the midst of planning for the release of an RFP for additional emergency shelter beds.
0:24:50
So we hope by the end of the year to be able to release an RFP seeking an additional 94 beds.
0:24:57
And this RFP seeks to target single adult households, single adult households of 1, and with a special emphasis on LGBTQI survivors.
0:25:13
The the facilities can't exclusively serve single adults that we've consulted with our oversight agency at the state of CFS, and the facilities must always accept families if that's that's a requirement of the shelter system.
0:25:28
But there is an emphasis on single adults and special focus on LGBTQ survivors.
0:25:34
So we will we hope and intend to expand with the issuance of this RFP later this year.

So we are replacing beds that we had lost, but we are converting them to with the focus for the single adults.
