Council Member Pierina Ana Sanchez, chair of the Committee on Housing and Buildings, introduces proposed intro number 956-C, which aims to allow artwork on sidewalk sheds and construction fences. She explains the context of the legislation, including the current state of sidewalk sheds in New York City and previous efforts to improve their appearance.

  • The proposed legislation would allow approved or alternative artwork to be fixed to or painted directly on sidewalk sheds or construction fences.
  • It would permit the artwork to remain on display as long as the structure has a valid permit.
  • The introduction mentions the City Canvas program, established by Local Law 163 of 2021, as a precursor to this new proposal.
