Council Member Avilés sought clarification on whether RHY programs have access to refer clients to the Asylum Seeker Help Center. DYCD representatives provided information on recent developments in this area.

  • DYCD clarified that RHY programs do have access to refer clients to the Asylum Seeker Help Center
  • The process for making these referrals was recently communicated to providers at a meeting the previous week
  • DYCD is tracking referrals and providing support to ensure young people get connected to necessary legal resources
  • The implementation of this direct referral process is very recent, with providers being informed just a week prior to the hearing

I just have a quick follow-up to make sure I understood correctly.
2:35:33
So as far as we understood, the our RHI programs lacked access referral access to the asylum application help center, but you just said that that is not the case.
2:35:47
Can you clarify for the record?
Dr. Amy Wilkerson
2:35:49
Yeah.
2:35:49
That is not the case.
2:35:51
We had been in the process of building out us an approach of how to make that those referrals.
2:35:59
That we spoke with our providers at the most recent provider meeting and provided them that step by step for how they can make those direct connections from aycd funded RHI programs Tudia, asylum seeker help center.
Alexa Avilés
2:36:17
And how many have been made so far?
Dr. Amy Wilkerson
2:36:20
It's only been 1 week.
2:36:21
So Oh.
2:36:22
I don't know if Just They sent
Alexa Avilés
2:36:24
any hearing.
Dr. Amy Wilkerson
2:36:24
I don't know if they sent any on Friday or not.
2:36:28
But it it I don't it wasn't really connected to the hearing.
2:36:31
I don't think because it was something we have been working on for quite some time, and we just happened to, you know, share the information.
Claudia Valdivia (via Spanish Interpreter)
2:36:39
Okay.
Alexa Avilés
2:36:41
So I guess we look forward to to hearing how that direct connection is materializing and also what it looks like for SAGE cases Yes.
2:36:52
As well in particular.
2:36:56
And so is there is there any particular time frame or milestones that are set up as part of this addressing this this gap or making the reconnection?
Dr. Amy Wilkerson
2:37:08
Well, I I I mean, I think that in the sprint process, our providers did a really good job of referring all of the individuals that were currently in our programs that had not been screened for screening, but we still had kind of the gap for the the over twenty one year olds, which we think that this this relationship is really gonna help support.
2:37:35
So we wanna just keep a track of who's making the referrals and continue to provide support to our providers so they can make those connections, and we can troubleshoot if things go alright.
2:37:46
So we can ensure that every young person gets connected to the legal resources that they need.
Alexa Avilés
2:37:51
So as of last week, all the providers are aware they can make direct referrals.
Dr. Amy Wilkerson
2:37:57
Yes.
Alexa Avilés
2:37:58
Okay.
2:37:58
Thank you.
2:38:00
I have
Althea Stevens
2:38:01
a couple of questions, but I'm gonna pass it to Council member Joseph so she can ask some questions, then I'll pass it back to me.
