Council Member Rita Joseph inquires about transition support for unaccompanied minors aging out of care. ACS officials explain the services available to these young people.

  • Young people in ACS care are eligible for all services regardless of immigration status
  • ACS works with young people without green cards on their immigration status, including referrals for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)
  • Services include healthcare, education referrals, therapy, language access services, and futures coaches
  • The main difference in support is the focus on immigration status for those without green cards

And there's a time period, a transition time period for these young people.

What what support is in place for them?

So do you mean from foster care?

Mhmm.

So young people in our care and custody, regardless of immigration status, are eligible for all the same services and supports.

And so we would work with a young person who doesn't have a a green card, the big difference would be working with them on their immigration status and referring them for Sidges.

But otherwise, they'd have the full panoply of services health care, referrals for education, therapy, in this case, if they needed it into language access services, their futures, coaches, etcetera.

Thank you, Trish.
