Council Member Pierina Ana Sanchez inquires about proactive requirements for accessing tenant units during inspections. DOB Deputy Commissioner Gus Sirakis explains that there are no mandatory inspections inside tenant spaces without a work permit.

  • Access is typically required only for equipment rooms like boiler rooms and elevator machine rooms
  • There are no proactive requirements for accessing individual tenant units
  • This highlights the limitations of current inspection practices for residential spaces

Without an actual work permit, I can't think of a mandatory inspection where we go inside of a tenant space.

The only thing would be access to equipment rooms such as the the boiler room, elevator, machine rooms, pits, but not the actual attendance spaces.
