Council Member Sanchez inquires about how the Department of Buildings has continued to oversee responsibilities previously handled by the licensing board. Deputy Commissioner Sirakis outlines the current processes:

  • Thorough background checks on license applicants
  • Verification of qualifications and work experience
  • Serious enforcement against unlicensed work activity

Additional points: - The department claims to maintain a rigorous vetting process for license applicants - Violations are issued for unlicensed work activities

So service times have improved But the board was responsible for advising the commissioner on items such as the character and fitness of licensing applicants, allegations of illegal practices, and code revisions, how how has the department continued to oversee these items in the absence of the board?

We do quite a thorough job there.
