DOB's code revision process and 2022 construction codes

The Department of Buildings engages in a collaborative code revision process involving industry professionals, the NYC Council, and the DOB's code development team. The 2022 construction codes, which went into effect on November 7, 2022, were the result of this process.
- Over 650 industry professionals and stakeholders contributed to the revision process
- The effort resulted in over 40,000 hours of service from committee members
- Work is already underway for the next revision and creation of the first NYC Existing Building Code (EBC)

This COBRA vision effort resulted in over 40,000 hours of service by our committee members, which included architects, engineers, attorneys, as well as representatives of construction, labor, real estate, and other city agencies and other stakeholder organizations.

Work is already underway to revise the construction codes again and to create a 1st ever New York City existing building code or the EBC, which will establish a robust regulatory framework for the alteration and maintenance of existing buildings.
