Council Member Sanchez questions HPD about the number of radiator complaints received and whether this reflects the true extent of defective radiators citywide. Deputy Commissioner Santiago acknowledges that the number of complaints may not represent the full scope of the issue.

  • HPD received over 800,000 complaints citywide in fiscal year 2024
  • Approximately 66,400 (8.3%) were regarding radiators
  • Santiago suggests that many issues may go unreported, highlighting the need for better education

So 66,400 regarding radiators out of 800,000, very point 5%, perhaps.

Is it is it your perspective that 6400 complaints regarding radiators is reflective of what what the city is facing in terms of defective radiators citywide?

I I couldn't say council member.
0:34:54
I would imagine that people who have sometimes leaky radiators or have concerns don't call.
0:35:02
And that is really where it would be important for us to continue with that education for people to know that that is not the normal functioning of the device and that they should be reporting it again first to their property owner and then to the agency if it's not addressed.
