Council Member Alexa Avilés shares her observations and concerns about the housing development occurring in her district, particularly regarding affordability issues.

  • The 'missing middle' housing being built in her district is primarily luxury housing
  • New developments are out of reach for existing residents
  • Avilés expresses skepticism about how the proposal addresses affordability concerns
  • She suggests that the current proposal might lead to 'more of the same' in terms of unaffordable housing

Great.
4:19:24
Thank you.
4:19:25
In terms of yeah.
4:19:27
I think my my district includes all these proposals, so this has been quite fun.
4:19:32
But in terms of what we're seeing is Actually, that missing metal occurring, but they're all luxury.
4:19:39
They're out of reach for the existing residents.
4:19:43
Obviously, we're not producing housing like some of our colleagues in North Brooklyn.
4:19:48
But all the building that's happening is what we consider luxury.
4:19:53
So I don't see how the proposal as developed necessarily addresses that.
4:19:59
I feel like it's potentially more of the same, but I'm interested to see In terms of oh, in terms of building more housing everywhere, what what I have seen the city not do is take into account the needs of that housing, particularly trash management.
