Council Member Brooks-Powers challenges the accuracy of flood risk mapping in the City of Yes proposal, particularly as it relates to her district in Southeast Queens. She points out discrepancies between the official flood risk zones and the actual flooding experiences in her community.

  • Notes that the current mapping still shows her district as eligible for incremental development increases
  • Highlights that some flood-prone areas in her community are not defined as high-risk flooding zones
  • Emphasizes the need to reassess the flood risk mapping to ensure it accurately reflects the realities of flooding in Southeast Queens

In terms of the the resiliency piece of it, there are some parts that were shaded in in these communities.

And I think it's because it's not defined as the high risk flooding zone, but we know that in actuality it does flood.
