Council Member Narcisse inquires about the administration's plans for protecting existing homeownership and creating new homeownership opportunities within the proposed zoning changes. Director Garodnick outlines several ways the plan supports homeownership.

  • Garodnick explains that adding opportunities for modest apartment buildings is well-suited for homeownership.
  • He mentions plans to clear out conflicting zoning rules related to city affordable homeownership programs.
  • The director highlights that ADUs could help potential homebuyers generate revenue to afford homes, expanding opportunities for homeownership.
  • Garodnick also notes efforts to re-legalize two-family homes in certain districts.

Thank you.
5:01:37
And how does the administration plan on balancing with a clear plan on protecting homeownership or even creating new possibility for homeownership in this plane.
5:01:50
Is that somewhere in there?
Daniel Garodnick
5:01:51
Well, by adding opportunities, by adding opportunities Mhmm.
5:01:57
Through modest Apartment Buildings.
5:02:00
Those are very well suited for homeownership.
5:02:03
We are going to clear out some of the rules that conflict in zoning relative to our own city affordable homeownership programs.
5:02:14
We're gonna try to relegalize here 2 family homes, which have become extremely difficult even in 2 family districts.
5:02:22
And, of course, to the point about ADUs, if you are a home buyer and you have the opportunity to add an ADU, that might actually help you generate sufficient revenue to be able to afford the home in the first instance.
5:02:35
So it is also an opportunity for you if you wanna get a foot in the door to be a homeowner.
5:02:40
So there's a lot of ways in which this program actually bands the pie to allow for more opportunities for homeownership.
5:02:47
And so we hope we hope it has
Erik D. Bottcher
5:02:49
your support.
Mercedes Narcisse
5:02:50
For the Fluttershy, we're gonna have to talk because I need a solution to that problem.
5:02:53
Thank you so much.
5:02:54
Thank you, chair.
5:02:55
Thank you.
