Speaker Adams raises concerns about infrastructure, particularly flooding and sewer issues in Southeast Queens. Director Garodnick responds by explaining DEP's role in assessing and addressing these needs through its capital planning process.
- DEP has a $20.1 billion 10-year capital plan for maintaining and improving water and sewer systems.
- The City of Yes proposal, if approved, will incorporate environmental impact analysis into DEP's ongoing capital planning.
- Citywide changes enable capital agencies to think more globally about potential impacts and investment opportunities.

Thank you very much, Cher Riley.

I'm I'm just gonna continue along that line of questioning to start off with with infrastructure that Cher Riley was just describing, and you know, where I live in Southeast Queens, that is an immense concern around infrastructure, particularly flooding, and sewer backups.

So what specific steps are the administration taking to identify those areas in need of infrastructure upgrades and to fund those needs specifically?
Daniel Garodnick
1:45:10
Yes.
1:45:10
Thank you, madam speaker.
1:45:11
Well, DEP is constantly assessing needs through its own 10 year capital plan, which includes a $20,100,000,000 amount maintaining state of good repair and improving the system in terms of water pollution control, water mains, sources, treatments, as water supply, the works.
1:45:38
They were a close partner with us on this plan.
1:45:41
And if this is approved, will incorporate our own environmental impact statement analysis into their ongoing capital planning work.
1:45:50
And I will note that by looking at changes in a citywide fashion, we do enable our capital agencies to think more globally about potential impacts and opportunities for investments.
1:46:04
So the short answer is DEP's capital planning process is the way for us to address existing known problems like the one that you just described in in your neck of the woods, as well as other problems that exist elsewhere.
