Thank you.
1:54:55
I I just have one more question.
1:54:57
I know my colleagues are really anxious to get into this.
1:55:00
And speaking about preservation, you've conveyed that this city wide zoning proposal is intended to spur the creation of new housing, which is important, yet the city has also lost approximately half a million affordable apartment events over more than a decade.
1:55:15
What far reaching preservation efforts do you believe are needed to save existing affordable housing?
Daniel Garodnick
1:55:22
Well, I'm gonna have commissioner Econ address the direct question, but I will say that the displacement pressures that people feel in New York City are directly related to our housing scarcity problem.
1:55:38
When we do not have sufficient opportunities for rental, for homeownership, for market, for affordable, for low income, we are creating and where we do not have the door open.
1:55:53
In many areas of the city.
1:55:54
We're creating real displacement pressure in neighborhoods of the city that are feeling market pressures today.
1:56:05
You know, we have found that in areas where you have people with resources competing for the same housing as people without resources, the people with resources tend to win.
1:56:15
And we need to create more opportunities here to lighten the load, lighten that conflict because it is not working out for low income communities around the city.
1:56:25
They're facing gentrification pressures.
1:56:27
They're facing displacement pressures.
1:56:29
And by adding supply, opening the door, we believe that we will smooth that out enable more opportunities, reduce costs, and also reduce those displacement pressures.
