Bria Donohue, representing the American Institute of Architects, New York, strongly supports the proposed City of Yes for Housing Opportunity zoning text amendment. She argues that the proposal is crucial for addressing the city's housing shortage by eliminating restrictive zoning laws and enabling every neighborhood to contribute to building affordable housing.
- The proposal takes an "all the above" approach, with each component building on others to create needed housing.
- Architects' analysis shows the proposal would meaningfully change what is buildable, making more sites developable and financially feasible.
- Donohue urges the city council to pass the proposal in its entirety to achieve the intended impact of over 100,000 units over the next 15 years.
