51 sec

Charles Ny, a blind New Yorker living on a fixed income in Midtown Manhattan, testifies against the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity plan. He argues that the proposed housing would be unaffordable for individuals like himself who rely on SSI, food stamps, and Medicaid.

  • Ny emphasizes that he cannot afford rent-stabilized apartments or units in existing affordable housing lotteries
  • He calls for mandates to ensure truly affordable apartments for everyone, including those with disabilities on fixed incomes
  • The testimony highlights the gap between proposed "affordable" housing and the financial reality of some of New York's most vulnerable residents

Hello.
1:40:09
I'm a blind New Yorker who lives in Midtown Manhattan on a fixed income, which is SSI, food stamps and Medicaid.
1:40:17
Someone like me would not be able to afford an apartment on this housing opportunity plan just like I cannot afford a rent stabilized apartment or any apartment on any of the so called affordable housing lotteries, I would someone like me in my position would not be able to afford any apartment on this housing opportunity.

So I'm very much against this.
1:40:44
We need mandates to mandate affordable apartments because affordability should be for everyone, even those who are on fixed income on SSI and you were disabled.

Thank you.
