Doris Hughes, a lifelong Queens resident from Little Neck, strongly opposes the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity proposal. She argues that it will destroy community fabric, overburden infrastructure, and fail to solve the affordability crisis while benefiting only developers.

  • Hughes criticizes the lack of community involvement in the proposal and argues it's not suitable for all neighborhoods.
  • She highlights existing vacant NYCHA units and office buildings as potential housing solutions that are being overlooked.
  • Hughes expresses concerns about environmental impact, increased crime, and parking challenges in her neighborhood.

12:16:00
We can hear you, Doris.

12:16:02
Hi.
12:16:03
Good evening.
12:16:05
My name is Doris Hughes.
12:16:07
I'm a lifelong Queen's resident currently living in Little Neck.
12:16:11
And Little Neck is vehemently opposed to the city of Jasper Housing Opportunity.
12:16:15
It will destroy the fabric of our communities and the way of life we work so hard to achieve.
12:16:21
One size does not fit all.
12:16:24
It's it's kind of arrogant for our elected officials to push this through without community involvement and proper input.
12:16:31
The city of yes will have an adverse environmental impact, taking away green space.
12:16:36
It will overburden the infrastructure and increase crime in our neighborhoods.
12:16:40
Little Neck is already parking challenged as most units have multiple cars.
12:16:45
This is past If this is passed, it will cause taxpayers residents to leave.
12:16:52
Hundreds of thousands have already left the city due to affordability.
12:16:57
There are currently thousands of vacant nacho units in New York city as well as vacant office buildings that can be converted to residential units.
12:17:05
Why isn't that being done?
12:17:07
This is a power grab.
12:17:08
The city of Yes will take away the review and approval process from community boards and council members.
12:17:14
New York City has affordability crisis.
12:17:16
The city of yes will not solve.
12:17:18
This is a land grab that only benefits the developers.
12:17:22
As an employee of a national real estate lender, I've seen developers withdraw mail of affordable units even if they incur penalties just so they can charge market rents.
12:17:32
The city of yes will not produce affordable units.
12:17:36
And in light of the corruption scandal, the current administration is mired in.
12:17:40
The city of yes must be rejected.
12:17:42
The city must work with local communities for solution that will benefit all residents.
12:17:48
Thank you.
