PUBLIC TESTIMONY

Testimony by Erik Nilsen, Resident of Bushwick

Erik Nilsen, a lifelong New York City resident now living in Bushwick, expresses strong support for the City of Yes proposal. He argues that the housing crisis in NYC is due to insufficient housing construction, leading to unaffordable real estate prices that force people to leave the city.

  • Nilsen became a homeowner in Bushwick two years ago and wants others to have the same opportunity.
  • He specifically supports ending parking mandates, arguing that space for people to live should take priority over car storage.
  • Nilsen believes new developments, often criticized, are actually beneficial and necessary for housing affordability.

Thank you very much, everyone, and thank you for letting me speak, and thank you for seeking this out.
11:53:24
My name is Eric Nelson.
11:53:26
I'm born and raised in New York City.
11:53:28
From Staten Island, and now I live in Bushwick.
11:53:31
And I unequivocally support everything in city of yes.
11:53:34
Feels like for most of my adult life, the city has been in a special housing crisis because we don't build enough.
11:53:40
I'm tired of seeing my friends of mine leave the city because they can't afford it, afford to the old state here themselves, or afford to raise children here.
11:53:49
And this all comes down because how expensive the real estate is.
11:53:53
It wasn't for new developments that is being disparage on this call.
11:53:58
I would have been able to afford become a homeowner 2 years ago up in the state in Bushwick, and I want other people to have the same opportunities that I have.
11:54:08
I I also really want to speak in favor of ending parking mandates because the city is congested with enough cars as as it is, and people should be more important than cars.
11:54:19
To space for people to live should be more important than cars to cars out of space.
11:54:24
Be more important for homeless people to be in housing than for people to have car spaces put their cars in.
11:54:32
Thank you for your time, and have
DJ Falkson

a great night.
