Judine Johnson-Harriott testified in support of the City of Yes proposal for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). She explained how the proposal would benefit her personally as a homeowner, allowing her to create an ADU instead of rebuilding an unused garage, which would help offset maintenance costs and mortgage payments.
- Johnson-Harriott emphasized that ADUs would be particularly beneficial for young homeowners and those with lower incomes.
- She noted that many houses in her neighborhood on Albany Avenue are nearly empty due to retiree homeowners, and parking is not an issue.
- Johnson-Harriott urged the council to consider the income status and background of those opposing the proposal, suggesting that opponents may already have high incomes.

Okay.
9:41:21
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to testify.
9:41:25
The city of yes proposal for ADUs came at a critical time for me.
9:41:30
By next month, I have to add adhere to a DLB requirement for me to get a permit to rebuild my garage that I never used and was in this repair before I purchased to the home 11 years ago.
9:41:43
I'd rather spend the 7500 that architects are quoting me for an audit aid to you that would be beneficial to me and my family and another family in need of housing.
9:41:54
My one family home was built in 1915, so it's always in need of costly repairs.
9:42:00
And ADU rental will offset those maintenance costs and high mortgage.
9:42:04
Where I live on Albany Avenue, the houses are practically empty because most of the homeowners are retirees.
9:42:11
My neighbors don't really

they

don't have we don't have an issue with parking.
9:42:16
So I urge the city the the council to pass the the proposal because it will benefit a lot of us young people who are homeowners.
9:42:31
And, also, taking the consideration the people who are against their income status and the background of the people who are against it.
9:42:38
Those are those are people who already have high incomes.
9:42:43
So for those of us who are struggling, I mean, ADUs, it it would be very beneficial.
9:42:48
Thank you.
