LaShaun Ellis, representing MTOPP, Crown Heights community, and Southern Ludwig's Stoddard Neighborhood Association, testifies against the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity (CHO) proposal. She argues that the proposal is unnecessary and potentially harmful, citing existing vacant apartments and concerns about affordable housing placement.

  • Ellis claims there are nearly 200,000 vacant apartments in NYC, questioning the need for 100,000 new units proposed by CHO.
  • She criticizes the proposal's allowance for affordable housing units to be located up to half a mile away from the main development site.
  • Ellis expresses concerns about the elimination of parking mandates and suggests that developers do not need additional incentives.

As one of the biggest corruption scandals, Lamar, our city, The first New York City mayor to be indicted will continue to affect the city with his dirty dealings for decades to come if these so called city of BS text amendments are put into law.
4:35:19
The mayor along with his blast planning committee wants to create 100,000 apartments with this city of Yes Tech's amendments, but there are almost 200,000 apartments that are vacant.
4:35:28
70,000 apartments are simply vacant, available to be rented.
4:35:32
A 123,000 are vacant and missing key components.
4:35:35
Prohabitability, like stoves, refrigerators, kitchens.

I'm not for that, but I'm just a little joke.
4:35:49
Tongue and cheek.
4:35:50
60,000 are available for occasional use.
4:35:54
I'm confused about some people mentioning these parking mandates and that they should be eliminated because they take up space.
4:35:59
They take space away from housing.
4:36:02
Because they're or because they're costly for developers.
4:36:05
Last I checked, departments are not placed in basements, and developers are not lacking funds, especially with all of the giveaways through abatements that many receive.
4:36:15
As mayor Eric Adams uses the race card to justify the CYHTA and swears the only reason people don't like him is because he is black, take a hard look at the CYHTA and you will find that there are racists and prejudiced against people who are black and anyone else who may qualify affordable housing.
4:36:31
Under the CYHTA, all of the mandatory, inclusionary housing, NIH, apartments, and universal affordability preference, units can actually reside outside of the zoning lot that is supposed to have the affordable units.
4:36:43
THE APARTMENTS GOING TO BE IN THE COMMUNITY DISTANCE.
4:36:47
Reporter: AS LONG AS LONG AS THE LOTS IN APARTMENTS ARE WITHIN HALF A MILES OF EACH OTHER, I PLEASE, I Really IMPLOYE YOU TO BOTH AGAINST THIS PLAN, it there's so much more Okay.
