Leo Guttmann, a resident of New York City, testifies in support of the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity proposal. He views it as a modest but necessary first step in addressing the city's affordability crisis and low vacancy rates.

  • Guttmann is particularly excited about the variety of new housing options the proposal would enable, such as shared housing for recent graduates and accessory dwelling units for older residents.
  • He emphasizes that the affordability crisis and low vacancy rates are negatively impacting the city's ability to thrive and maintain its reputation as a welcoming place for people from around the world.
  • Guttmann argues that increasing housing supply gently throughout the entire city is crucial for creating affordable housing and maintaining New York's vibrancy.

Hello.
6:50:42
Thanks for giving the chance to test by.
6:50:46
I live in one city and live one district, and I'm here to support the city district for housing opportunity.
6:50:58
It's a proposal that I think is modest and, you know, won't solve everything about 1000 and 4ability crisis, but it's a really necessary first step that I hope we can build off of in the future.
6:51:13
I'm excited in particular for, you know, the ability to build a variety of new housing options that will get people more choices for living in different types of neighborhoods in different stages of life.
6:51:26
I can imagine, you know, the fresh grad wanting to have lived in, you know, the share smalls and share housing.
6:51:34
Options will be opened up.
6:51:36
As I hate, I can imagine myself won't live in one of the accessory dwelling units that might be enabled by this legislation.
6:51:45
Overall, I I think, you know, the affordability crisis and the, you know, extremely low vacancy rates well in our 2%.
6:51:55
Are sort of choking the faith's ability to thrive and and same with, you know, people who live here.
6:52:02
I think it's, you know, preventing all people.
6:52:04
We're feeling like the economy is strong.
6:52:07
A lot of it had to do with rising rents.
6:52:10
And it's also, you know, affirming the city's ability to be what it's represented for so many years to so many people, the ability for people from all around the world to come and find a home and, you know, make the city thrive.
6:52:29
In order to continue that, we need affordable housing, and the way to do that is through these modest proposals, to increase housing supply gently throughout the entire city.
6:52:41
Thank you.
