Rob Mazzuchin, President of Marine Park Community Organization, testified against the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity proposal. He argued that the bill does not represent the majority's wishes, removes community input from land use decisions, and fails to address affordable housing effectively.
- Questioned the claim that 80% of New Yorkers support the proposal
- Expressed concern about the bill's length (1383 pages) and its potential for exploitation by developers
- Warned about the strain on city infrastructure and services if the proposal is implemented

12:35:53
you, Jim.
12:35:53
Person.
12:35:54
A little more.
12:35:54
It's Rob Masucci.
12:35:56
So I am president of Marine Park Community Association, 20,000 homes, 50,000 residents.
12:36:02
I've heard people say that 80% of the people are in favor of this.
12:36:06
80% of the citizens
Joseph McAllister
12:36:07
of New York are in favor of this.
Rob Mazzuchin
12:36:10
I don't see 80% of the people voicing approval to for today.
12:36:13
We move into these neighborhoods, as Miss Johnson just said.
12:36:17
We live in a 1 and a 2 family home because that's where we choose to live.
12:36:21
The city of yes is a broad stroke, which allows for drastic changes in the neighborhood without input from the people in the community who reside in the neighborhood.
12:36:31
Now, the city council, the most important function of city council, is land use.
12:36:38
This bill takes land use away from the community council and from the community boards.
12:36:46
It it can happen.
12:36:47
Now I've heard some people complain about what their council members do and don't do.
12:36:52
You know, each member, each community board is different, and each community board has different needs, and it should stay with the council members.
12:37:01
And the community boards to decide what goes on in their neighborhood.
12:37:05
This bill does not provide affordable housing.
12:37:08
If you want to address affordable housing, address affordable housing.
12:37:13
This bill allows for developers to build whatever they want, wherever they want.
12:37:18
It's 1383 pages, and I'd like to know how many people who testified today and how many council members read the entire 1383 pages.
12:37:27
I'm an attorney, and I know what I can do with 1383 pages.
12:37:32
If I wanna build something, I could build it.
12:37:34
The bottom line is at the end of the day, the developers are gonna make a fortune.
12:37:39
They're gonna turn properties that should be for affordable housing into market rent areas, and all these young people voting in favor of city of yes, are not gonna have a place to live or or an apartment to afford.
12:37:51
And the city, it's gonna cost the city, it's gonna fortune more because this
