Roxanne Delgado, an activist from Friends of Pelham Parkway, strongly opposes the City of Yes proposal, arguing that it benefits real estate interests rather than communities, particularly in the Bronx. She criticizes the lack of community input and warns of environmental injustice.

  • Claims the proposal was initiated "behind closed doors" with real estate interests and the Department of City Planning
  • Argues that building more housing doesn't necessarily mean more affordable homes, citing personal experiences in the Bronx
  • Urges the City Council to vote against the proposal, warning of political consequences if they support it

Hello, city council.
7:30:12
My name is Mark Santo Gallo.
7:30:13
I'm a activist.
7:30:15
Well, I noticed that now one real estate person has been spoken against the city of yes, not one of them.
7:30:22
The the fact they came out in support of city of yes, They send a funding nonprofits in source, say yes.
7:30:28
But now one of them came out to speak against Citi of yes as they do when we do proposed rent freezes.
7:30:32
So actually, real estate benefits from this Citi yes.
7:30:36
That itself tells you It does not benefit from this committee that did not initiate this plan.
7:30:41
It was initiated by a crop demonstration behind closed doors with real estate and a political operative department of city planning.
7:30:48
This will be environmental injustice.
7:30:50
Because community input will be annihilated.
7:30:53
How can you expect people to vote when they have no input in the process?
7:30:57
Secondly, environmental injustice, the Bronx, the poorest, the unhealthiest, the the most little quality life you have with the greenness, adding more asphalt to the Bronx will make us worse than we are now.
7:31:12
And building more housing doesn't mean building more houses doesn't mean more homes, it means building more affordable housing because in the Bronx, when I had to move after I lost my apartment, I found apartments by Kuna for them, and that's the story of most of our people that we can't it's not that we can't afford apartments.
7:31:29
We can't afford them.
7:31:30
And that one nonprofit person that supports them, yes, came out to comfort this lady and I listened in tears.
7:31:35
This is the story of the Bronx residents.
7:31:37
People living in their apartment for decades and then having to lose their community and their homes.
7:31:42
And I wanted that it will offer her a comfort or offer her in the assistant besides yourself.
7:31:46
That's just a lot about those people.
7:31:48
Who are they here for?
7:31:49
Does that definitely matter for people color, which they like to use, commute colors, commute colors, but they're not even part of that commute color, but they love to use us.
7:31:56
This is not this plan does not help commute colors.
7:31:58
We're being exploited to justify this plan that would actually harm us.
7:32:01
City Council, we have political plea
Charles Ny
7:32:05
and
Roxanne Delgado
7:32:05
pay for politicians pushing this rally, pushing this initiative that will harm us, and they will have blood in their hands.
7:32:10
So do the right thing because otherwise, you should be voted out.
7:32:13
Thank you so much.
