Steve Barrison, a land use real estate attorney with decades of experience, strongly opposes the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity proposal. He argues that the proposal is unnecessary and based on false premises, urging council members to vote against it to protect their constituents and the city.
- Claims 5-6 million new housing units could be built without changing zoning laws
- Asserts that affordability is the real issue, not zoning restrictions
- Challenges the reported 81% support for the proposal, stating it's based on misleading information from certain organizations
- Offers to work with council members to develop alternative solutions for affordable housing

Alright.
12:20:19
Hey, Kevin.
12:20:20
And speaker Adams is in here.
12:20:22
I I don't know you, Kevin, but I've been testifying since 1983 in front of it.
12:20:27
City council.
12:20:27
I wish I was there today,
Peter Estes
12:20:28
but I know
Steve Barrison
12:20:29
city council was before listening.
Kevin C. Riley
12:20:31
That was before man.
Charles Ny
12:20:32
Was a
Steve Barrison
12:20:32
land use real estate attorney council.
12:20:35
I've studied this all over the whole city.
12:20:38
I've listened to every testimony today.
12:20:41
This is giving up your power as a council person to represent your constituents.
12:20:47
All the people that spoke to previous speaker, Maria, hit it right on the head.
12:20:51
I never knew.
12:20:52
I guess I'm old.
12:20:53
I looked up at 4 different websites.
12:20:55
And most of the testimony of the younger people today in their twenties and thirties was right out of those websites giving you suggested transcripts to pull from and speak, so it's incredible.
12:21:06
It's as if they don't know the facts.
12:21:08
So here's the bottom line.
12:21:09
It is a big lie.
12:21:11
And I live here.
12:21:12
My family's been here since 18 98 in sunships at bay, and I will tell you you could build 5 to 6,000,000 new units right now without changing one word of the zone.
12:21:23
So the whole idea if you gotta change it to build is alive.
12:21:26
So do not hit your wagon to the sinking mayor.
12:21:29
Do it for your constituents in the city of New York.
12:21:31
Affordability is what's lacking.
12:21:34
We've heard that a thousand times.
12:21:36
What else can I possibly tell you?
12:21:38
You gotta vote no because it's about you and me and us in the city of New York.
12:21:44
A big fact no.
12:21:44
The 81% is a lie.
12:21:47
It's just that fake open New York and there's 3 other group organizations that say the same thing.
12:21:52
It's a 2 to 1 vote in the city.
12:21:54
We've we've literally went around to over 225 organizations in a 175 communities.
12:22:02
Most of the people are opposed to this.
12:22:04
Why?
12:22:05
Because you have to you have the ability now to build as much housing as you could ever want.
12:22:10
You wanna build affordable housing?
12:22:11
Say no to this.
12:22:12
Kevin, please.
12:22:13
Contact me.
12:22:15
I will bring experienced planners like some others that had spoke and will help get put together
