Today, we stand at the intersection of empowerment, transparency, and recognition.

We have not simply voted on legislative measures, but we have taken steps to uplift and empower our communities, to celebrate the brilliance within us, and to make this city a more transparent, equitable place.

We are saying that the people of New York deserve to know what is happening with the request they make, whether for traffic control devices or speed reducers because these decisions impact lives.

And so with Resolution 193, we declared October as youth empowerment month in New York City.

It is a recognition of the potential, the brilliance, and the activism of our young people.

It is about giving them the platforms they deserve, the space to lead, and the encouragement to build and thrive.

We are laying the groundwork for a generation of conscious, empowered, and activated use.

Today, with the resolution of 508, We designated October 10th as Casey Benjamin Day in New York City.

Casey was the son of South Jamaica Queens, a product of our community.

And I just wanted to acknowledge Lynette Townsley, who worked really hard on this.
