Cornerstone programs of the FAD: Wastewater treatment

The commissioner outlines the wastewater treatment program, which is the second cornerstone program of the FAD. This program addresses wastewater from the population in the watershed.
- DEP funded the installation of high-level treatment technology on more than 30 existing wastewater plants
- The treatment, known as tertiary treatment, effectively eliminates pathogens and reduces nutrient discharge
- DEP paid to construct new centralized wastewater systems in more than 20 communities
- More than 6,000 septic systems serving homes and small businesses have been repaired
