Council Member Gennaro inquires about the current impact of Westchester County Airport on New York City's water quality. Commissioner Aggarwala explains that while the airport has long been recognized as a potential risk, most of it does not drain into the Kensico Reservoir. He assures that over the past 30 years, extensive stormwater management systems have been implemented to mitigate any potential negative effects on the water supply.

  • The airport is a known risk to water quality, but most of it doesn't drain into Kensico Reservoir
  • Stormwater management systems have been implemented over the past 30 years
  • These systems effectively prevent drainage from the small portion of the airport that could affect the water supply

Look.
1:41:25
So Westchester County Airport again is is something that we've long known as is one of the big risks.
1:41:31
We have an active effort to basically to seal off, runoff from the airport.
1:41:38
Most of the airport actually does not drain into Gensugo.
1:41:40
It's only a small portion that does.
1:41:42
And over the last 30 years, there have been a lot of storm water management systems put in place so that that does not that does not drain.
