How is the delivery of health care changing?
0:54:17
And what impact does it have on the current hospital system and the provision of services?
Dr. Michelle Morse
0:54:27
I think we both, Doctor.
0:54:28
Yavacoli and I, as clinicians, have seen lots of changes in healthcare, and certainly at the health department, we have also seen these changes.
0:54:36
Telehealth is obviously rising and is much more common and commonly accessible now than it was prior to the pandemic in New York City.
0:54:46
So that is one change that is noteworthy and significant.
0:54:50
And I would say that there are a number of other changes course, in terms of volume of patients, as Doctor.
0:54:56
Yamakoli mentioned, volume in emergency departments is up.
0:55:01
And I think I'm not sure if there are any other specific trends that are worth mentioning at the moment, but healthcare is constantly changing and the needs of the communities we see and care for across New York City are also constantly changing.
0:55:14
I'll pass it to Doctor.
0:55:15
Abakkoli in case she'd like to add.
Mercedes Narcisse
0:55:17
Thank you.
Laura Iavicoli
0:55:18
Yeah.
0:55:18
I agree with the telehealth.
0:55:21
And New York City Health And Hospitals does have 247 virtual express care, which is 247 telemedicine for nonurgent medical problems in 200 different languages, including sign language, And it is a service that is, you know, invaluable to anybody, and it's accessible to anybody and very affordable.
0:55:46
Some of the other things I could just say would be data driven decision making that you know, we're more and more we're relying on data to guide us in healthcare.
0:55:59
And
Mercedes Narcisse
0:56:00
I have to tell you honestly, I love telehealth, telemedicine because a lot of folks can you know, have access, especially their homebound.
0:56:07
I used to do home care too, by the way.
0:56:09
And then when you do home care, you know how the patient at homebound and how difficult it is for them to get out, to go to maintain their appointments.
0:56:17
And but we still have to work and improve in term of making technology accessible throughout New York City and find out the homebound folks that we can give creative access for them as well.
0:56:30
And I hope you can help me push that because I wanna push that more because there's a lot of folks that sell home, and they're still complaining about how the transportation is not good, and they still cannot get to the doctors, and they don't have the access to technology.
0:56:45
Alright.
0:56:45
Thank you.
