Council Member Brooks-Powers asks about the city's efforts to provide transparent information to communities about potential hospital closures and gather feedback proactively. Dr. Michelle Morse responds by outlining the Health Department's community engagement initiatives.

  • Dr. Morse highlights the role of the Center for Health Equity And Community Wellness in community engagement and funding community-based organizations.
  • She mentions that community input informs the regularly updated community health profiles available on the Health Department website.
  • While no specific forums have been convened for this particular closure, Dr. Morse notes that existing forums, such as work on birth equity in Brooklyn, provide opportunities to hear community concerns.
  • Dr. Iavicoli had no further information to add on this topic.

Chair, can I just ask one final question?
2:06:17
How is the city working with communities to provide transparent information about potential closure closures and to gather feedback proactively.
Dr. Michelle Morse
2:06:32
I can start by saying that a big part of our priorities and infrastructure and programs in the New York City Health Department is within the Center for Health Equity And Community Wellness.
2:06:43
And within that center, we do pretty extensive community engagement.
2:06:47
We also fund community based organizations.
2:06:50
And the information from those community engagement processes also inform our community health profiles that we update regularly and are publicly available on the New York City Health Department website.
2:07:02
So those are the kinds of things that we do routinely as a part of our process to make sure that community voice and community priorities are a part of our planning.
2:07:12
We haven't convened any specific forums in the New York City Health Department around this particular disclosure, but we do have existing forums, including work in Brooklyn on birth equity, where we hear from community members about their concerns and integrate that into our planning.
2:07:29
I'll pass to Doctor.
2:07:30
Yavacoli in case she'd like to add.
Laura Iavicoli
2:07:34
I have nothing further to add.
