Council Member Schulman inquires about trends in urgent care usage and H+H's plans for urgent care services. Dr. Morse and Laura Iavicoli provide information on current services and data availability.

  • There's a trend of increased reliance on urgent care clinics, particularly for those without primary care providers
  • The NYC Health Department doesn't have specific data on urgent care usage trends but can follow up with available information
  • H+H currently offers 24/7 virtual express care as an urgent care equivalent, but no immediate plans for brick-and-mortar urgent care centers were mentioned

There's a lot of emergent data that suggests that people across the United States are turning to urgent care clinics more frequently, particularly for individuals who do not have a primary care provider.
1:13:38
And even for those who do have a primary care physician appointments can be hard to find, Do you have any data specific to New York City on whether there is an increased reliance on urgent care centers and if so, the reasons for this trend?
Dr. Michelle Morse
1:13:51
In general, many urgent careers were opened because again, there are payment incentives to open urgent care centers.
1:14:00
They are, however, still a critical point of access to care for people who need healthcare.
1:14:06
So they are a part of the infrastructure for healthcare delivery in the city.
1:14:11
I do not currently have any specific urgent care data that you requested, but we can follow-up with you and share what we do have access to.
1:14:19
In terms of urgent care data?
Lynn Schulman
1:14:24
There was a time at h and h because I worked at h and h from 2007, 2017 that they were considering doing stand alones.
1:14:32
Is that not the plan anymore?
Laura Iavicoli
1:14:36
We currently have the 247 virtual express care, and that is the urgent care equivalent for New York City Health And Hospitals.
1:14:48
It is a virtual form.
Lynn Schulman
1:14:50
That's virtual.
1:14:51
It's not it's not a Correct.
1:14:53
Brick and mortar.
1:14:54
Okay.
1:14:56
Any plans for brick and mortar or no?
1:14:58
To your knowledge?
Laura Iavicoli
1:14:59
I would have to get the answer to that and let you know.
