What can New York State and the city council do to support hospitals in the city and prevent further closure?
Dr. Michelle Morse

Thank you for that question.

I think we, in the New York City health department, are grateful that counsel is prioritizing this issue and holding the hearing today.
0:49:19
We think it is really important for us to be able to have open dialogue around this kind of issue that impacts health equity and access to care in communities across New York City.
0:49:31
We also in the New York City health department really do see our role as assessing data across the city, partnering with the state health department where we can.
0:49:42
And then one of the things that is helpful from counsel is you all hear from your constituents about their concerns and the potential impacts of healthcare access and hospital close are on their lives.
0:49:55
And as you hear those things and those concerns, sharing them with us at the health department also allows us to plan and also allows us to mitigate as much as we're able to But again, in this particular case, it's the state to health department that is the decision maker.
0:50:12
I'm sorry.
0:50:13
Finally, one other area where city council, of course, has significant impact, is coordinating with and being in conversation with state assembly and senate colleagues who themselves are also really responsible for in partnership with the state health department addressing issues of health equity and hospital closures.
0:50:33
And I'll pass it to Doctor.
0:50:34
Yavacoli in case you'd like to add to that.
Laura Iavicoli
0:50:39
So the only thing I would add is that, again, I'll just reiterate what I had said that we are here to serve our community, our patients.
0:50:49
We will continue to assess with the city and H And H Leader ship around what the impacts will be and will scale up as necessary.
