Christopher Leon Johnson testifies against the closure of hospitals in New York City, emphasizing the importance of accessible healthcare and criticizing the motives behind these closures. He specifically mentions opposing the closure of hospitals on the east side and downtown.

  • Johnson argues that hospital closures are primarily driven by real estate development interests rather than public health concerns.
  • He expresses concern about the impact of street redesigns, including bike lanes and bus lanes, on emergency vehicle access to hospitals.
  • Johnson urges council members to support resolutions opposing hospital closures, acknowledging the limitations of city authority over state-run hospitals.

Okay.
3:51:02
Hello, everybody.
3:51:03
My name is Christopher Leon Johnson.
3:51:04
Sorry about the setting.
3:51:05
I mean, Roxanne, juggling, helping somebody out, and the job production in, like, 5 minutes.
3:51:11
So I'm here to testify at the one we have opposing any closures of any hospital.
3:51:16
I'm supporting and making sure that that Israel on the east side doesn't get closed.
3:51:20
I'm here to make sure that the eye center on east side right now that far from down there my kids bay doesn't get closed, and I'm here to make sure that suite downtown doesn't get closed.
3:51:30
These hospital closures in the city are nothing but a a land grab.
3:51:34
Nothing but a big land grab for these developers.
3:51:38
Just like Open Europe all and trans all open plans.
3:51:42
This is all about in boy, a property grab because the the media rents are down there in those areas about are, like, 8, 10000 out of Manhattan, and and Rio Jones District which is about $34,000 a month, and they're doing a lot of redesigning around that area about about Town State, especially about Flatbush Avenue with the Flatbush bus redesign, and the bike lane that you have pushed out with the help of the rider's lines.
3:52:06
So, basically, people need to start opposing these hospital closures because if you ever get into the accident and I don't want this on my dead nearest enemy or on any enemy alliance or any person that hates me, of them get in a medical situation in anywhere, you will need a hospital because you don't if you don't get to hospital certain time, your condition will get worse or you might pass away.
3:52:31
So like I said, we need these hospitals because you never know you might trip it forward.
3:52:36
In anywhere to city, and you need to go to the nearest hospital because you don't wanna trip the phone, be bleeding out, or be hurting your head, and you can't get to a hospital because they're closed.
3:52:46
What need to start happening more is we need to get rid of these bike lane, but this hospital because that's that jeopardize these ambulances, these bus lanes, and these bike lanes.
3:52:55
We all know what that's about.
3:52:56
That's about transportation alternatives and rider lines or downward developers, and all this is about is redesigning these streets for these for these developers, and that's all it's about.
3:53:08
But we need but by the way, but if we wanna see these hospitals while the same time meet you with these bike lanes and these all.

3:53:18

3:53:21
I know like I said, I know by the level, I know that the city can do a lot because these are state or hospital, but I hope that every council member support this resolution will get to the floor.
3:53:30
So thank you so much.
3:53:31
Thank you.
Mercedes Narcisse
