Council Member Linda Lee inquires about the referral system and support for complex cases involving veterans and their families. Dr. Lauren D'Mello explains the process and provides an example.
- DVS conducts consultations with families needing a higher level of care
- An example was given of supporting a 75-year-old veteran suddenly responsible for a 10-year-old child
- DVS connects families to various resources, including food assistance and support programs
- The agency aims to provide a whole health model to fully support veterans and their families

Thank you.

And then if they do need other further supportive services, what does that look like in terms of your referral hand off?
0:59:27
Say that again.
0:59:28
I'm sorry.
0:59:28
Oh, so if if you guys are helping some of the families and the veterans and the family members of veterans, if they need further assistance or help that is sort of much more complicated, then what does that referral system look like between agencies and what does the handoff look like?

So when we have a family that needs a higher level of care, we sit down and we have a consultation with them.
0:59:51
I can give you an example of that.

Last week, we had a veteran through the military family advocate program, reached out to their military family advocate through an unfortunate series of deaths.

A seventy five year old now was responsible for a ten year old child.
1:00:07
They didn't really understand how to take care of this child.
1:00:11
They needed food resources.
1:00:13
So we were able to connect them to the girl scouts of America, various staff to programs, food resources, And so I feel like working with the different partners, we're able to fill in multiple gaps and provide more of a whole health model to fully support the veteran and their family.
