- About 25% of returning veterans report symptoms of depression
- Approximately 25% are affected by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- While 1/3 of affected veterans receive mental health care, 20% have yet to access needed services

Now to today's topic, which is personal as a great meaning to me as the son of a veteran.

A recent study has shown that veterans returning to New York State over the past 5 years are more often reporting symptoms of depression and PTSD than veterans from earlier years.

About a quarter of returning veterans report dealing with depression.

And similarly, about a quarter are affected by post traumatic stress disorder.

So While approximately 1 third of these veterans are receiving some form of mental health care, another 20% have yet to receive the mental health services they need, whether due to an uncertainty about their effectiveness or simply not knowing where to access them.
