Council Member Powers asks Dr. Espiritu about his observation that Manhattan is well-served by hospitals, potentially to the detriment of outer borough residents. Dr. Espiritu discusses strategies for expanding services and improving healthcare access in underserved areas.
- Need to identify areas where high-quality healthcare services are less accessible
- Strategies include building infrastructure, strengthening community health clinics, and mobile outreach
- Telehealth and electronic capabilities can help reach people who can't easily access physical facilities
- Focus on promoting equity and ensuring quality healthcare is accessible to all city residents
