Council Member Rita C. Joseph inquires about support for students with IEPs in the Summer Rising program, particularly those requiring one-to-one paraprofessional support. DOE officials explain the process of using summer accommodation forms to determine student needs and staffing paraprofessionals accordingly.
- 29,110 summer accommodation forms were completed, with 2,209 students recommended for one-to-one paraprofessional support
- Over 100% of recommended paraprofessionals were staffed on a daily basis, though not every student had their assigned paraprofessional every day due to vacancies or absences
- Support for students with disabilities continues throughout the entire program day, including the enrichment portion in the afternoon

And and quick question.
1:21:02
Students with IEP that require a 1 to 1 para professional in some horizon, is that provided for the student?
1:21:13
I'm gonna let it.
1:21:13
You can go ahead.
1:21:15
And once Before before
Danielle Domingo
1:21:16
any comes up.
1:21:19
So so one of the things that we did specifically speak with principles about is the learning experience, the heterogeneous learning experience, and what that looks like.
1:21:30
But there were also opportunities for principals and teachers to program differently to meet some of the needs and address some of the the acceleration that you were speaking about, chair Stevens, as well.
1:21:41
I think we can continue in this work to make sure that principals are aware of some of the the suggestions and recommendations that are coming from families like you just described from the survey.

1:22:07
Thank you so much for the question about payeras.
1:22:11
For summarizing, we go beyond the IEP, and we use a summer accommodation form.
1:22:16
And that's where we have teachers who know the student best say, what is the support?
1:22:21
That this student needs in order to be successful in the classroom.
1:22:24
So even if a student does not have a 1 to 1 peer on their IEP, they may have a 1 to 1 peer support when it comes to a summarizing classroom.
1:22:33
This year, we had 29,110 summer accommodation forms were completed.
1:22:39
We had a new process that resulted in significantly more completion than we had in the past.
1:22:44
When we look at those forms by the teachers who know their students best, We saw that 2209 students were recommended for a 1 to 1 pair.
1:22:55
And we had 15 and 60 students who were recommended for a group pair.
1:23:01
So size of 2 to 3.
1:23:04
When we look at what were we able to do in terms of providing support for those peers.
1:23:10
On an on day to day basis, we had over a 100% of the recommended peers were staffed.
1:23:16
That does not mean that every student who had a one to one peer had that peer that day.
1:23:21
So I wanna be very clear about that.
1:23:23
That's due to a vacancy or an absence, but we did have a 105% of the peers that were recommended were staffed on a daily basis.
1:23:31
Through peers and sub peers.

1:23:37
So in the academic part, what about the enrichment in the afternoon?
1:23:41
Is support provided for the students who need
UNKNOWN
1:23:44
that?
1:23:45
Yes.
Daniel Guillén
1:23:46
Yes.
1:23:47
So support continued throughout the rest of the program day.
1:23:50
And in preparation for the afternoon, there was training and professional learning supports.
1:23:58
In person and and remotely in the weeks leading up to the start of the program.
1:24:05
And CBOs did also have access to the summer accommodation plans as well.
1:24:09
So we wanted to be very intentional.
1:24:11
On what necessary supports would be implemented for.
