Council Member Oswald Feliz inquires about the common issues and barriers that people seek help for regarding public space activation. Calvin Brown from SBS responds that the biggest issues are related to permitting and navigating the process of organizing events and programs.

  • SBS helps connect organizations with necessary agencies and resources
  • They assist in aligning funding from different agencies for impactful events
  • SBS acts as a guide to direct organizations to the right agencies for their needs

Okay.

And what are different issues and barriers that people usually come and seek help for?
0:54:37
So you mentioned permitting any other top issues that stand down?
Calvin Brown

I think those are the the biggest issues that we've seen.
0:54:46
I think the other issues my team was pretty talented and and can help them through, like, what type of program and they should have there, who are some what's the the time in, what are the agencies that we need to direct them to.
0:55:03
So it's really just really navigating the permanent process, resources we help them with, where we can.
0:55:10
The reason why we have these sort of interagency call meetings is if DLT is funding them for certain things, then maybe we can supplement that funding so that they can really have a impactful event.
0:55:22
So we try to be aligned, but in terms of resources, SBS, we try to do our best to support them with it, but it's really about, you know, permit and purview, which agency do we need to direct them to, and that's where we sort of act as this sort of light light pulse to to to to send them in the right direction.
