In this August, SBS's new commissioner, Dienuchal Gross, announced over 650,000 in the first ever public loan grants to 10 community based development organizations across our five boroughs.

Our partner organizations will use this funding to develop place based projects such as temporary lighting installations, public art, way finding signage to direct visitors to important sites around the neighborhood.

In North Shore of Staten Island, La Clemente, one of the 1st public realm grant recipients, plans to paint 3 murals celebrating the strong Mexican Italian heritage presence along Port Richmond Avenue from Ann Street to Hooker Place this year.

In the Bronx, the 161st Street bid in the urban design form, have transformed Lou Gehrig Plaza with seating shade structures and lighting.

These additions allow local organizations to host free outdoor music performances and events, building a stronger sense of connection for residents and attracting more visitors to the neighborhood.

In Brooklyn, Arts Guyanis and the Guyanis canal conservancy will develop the Guyanis Walk About program, a creative way finding initiative to promote and support local businesses and culture during a period of substantial neighborhood change.
