Council Member Eric Dinowitz inquires about CUNY degree programs supporting civil service career tracks and the Civil Service Pathways Fellowship. CUNY and DCAS representatives provide information on available programs and application statistics.

  • CUNY has over 1,700 degree programs, many of which overlap with civil service pathways
  • The CUNY internship program received over 68,000 applications for public sector roles
  • The Civil Service Pathways Fellowship recently increased from 100 to 200 available positions
  • The fellowship covers areas such as policy analysis, procurement, IT, project management, and engineering
  • For the latest cohort starting soon, over 1,000 CUNY students applied for 68 available positions

Oh, it sounds very easy for tagging them.
0:43:59
That's data.
0:44:00
I I love the data you're collecting.
0:44:02
Yeah.
0:44:02
I'd certainly be interested to know how many of the courses have been updated and what those updates what those updates look like.
0:44:11
And then in addition to the career fellows, does Quni have current degree majors available that could support even more additional career tracks for the civil service pathway fellowship, for example, human resources management.
Lauren Andersen
0:44:26
We can get you a list of degree programs that mapped the civil service pathways.
0:44:32
Again, I don't have them with us but we have over 1700 degree programs.
0:44:35
And yes, there is a lot of overlap.
Eric Dinowitz
0:44:37
There's a lot.
0:44:38
Maybe some of those are tagged too.
0:44:40
What would hope?
0:44:41
What's that?
Lauren Andersen
0:44:41
One would hope.
Eric Dinowitz
0:44:42
I I you're a big system.
0:44:44
It's it's gotta keep track of all the data.
0:44:48
What can you talk about some of the limitations?
0:44:50
In other words, could CUNY provide more qualified graduates for the civil service pathways fellowship if slots were available?
0:44:57
And and who places the limits on the number of graduates in the program?
0:45:01
Is it Decast or is it CUNY?
Lauren Andersen
0:45:04
I could take the recruitment piece, and then I'll leave the second part to you.
0:45:07
So through the CUNY internship program that we run that I alluded to before, we have had over 68,000 applications for the public sector roles that we have available to students in terms of internships.
0:45:21
60,000 to 655 is a ratio where, yes, there are many more students who would take advantage of the role should they be open.
0:45:29
So we are excited to exploring how we get more and more city agencies involved in that effort.
0:45:33
Do you want to talk about pathways in particular?
Kadian Outar
0:45:36
Yes.
0:45:36
And so to clarify, we have the civil service pathways fellowships, which is at partnerships with Q And A and UCaaS.
0:45:46
This particular program allows for and we're thankfully, we just got an increase for us to place 200 individuals in those programs.
0:45:53
So this is a limit that is set by the state.
0:45:56
And so we have those programs cover policy and program analysis.
0:46:00
Procurement and finance, information technology and data analysis, created services, and digital media, project management, and then architecture and engineering.
0:46:10
And so we are part of how we recruit for this is to make sure that we're engaging with community schools, making sure that we open the application, we provide announcements on the application.
0:46:23
And so far, we've seen increase year over year in how many people are applying for this particular program.
0:46:28
For the cohort that is starting on Monday with 68 individuals, we had over a thousand folks, CUNY students that applied for the program.
Eric Dinowitz
0:46:37
1, if I like to know, we've been joined by council member, Kevan.
