Commissioner Strauber provides statistics on arrests and referrals resulting from sexual misconduct investigations in DOC facilities.
- Since 2017, DOI has investigated approximately 58 complaints of staff-on-inmate sexual abuse or harassment
- DOI has made 3 arrests related to staff-on-inmate sexual misconduct and 2 arrests for staff-on-staff sexual misconduct
- Since 2022, DOI has made 31 referrals to DOC and CHS for staff discipline as a result of substantiated allegations of sexual misconduct

Since the BOC standards went into effect in 2017, DOE has investigated approximately 58 complaints of staff on persons in custody, sexual abuse, or harassment.

In addition, DOE also made 2 arrests for staff on staff sexual misconduct.

When DOE has conducted an investigation of sexual abuse by DOC or CHS staff, and obtain sufficient evidence of criminal sexual conduct.

DOE refers the matter to a prosecutor's office, state or federal.

DOE works closely with that office to investigate further and to prosecute the case.

If there is not sufficient evidence of criminal conduct, DOE refers the matter to DOC or CHS for whatever action the respective agency deems appropriate based on the facts developed by DOE's investigation.
