Council Member Amanda Farías asks how research findings are incorporated into policy recommendations. Qiana Mickie explains the process of evaluating the soil research results and their potential impact on urban agriculture policy.
- Focus on biochar and rock dust for nutrient-dense soil
- Plans to use data to inform and leverage urban agriculture policy
- Goals include scaling the research and improving soil viability in the city

Great.
1:52:56
And how are you folks incorporating that those research findings into the policy recommendations?
1:53:02
Sorry.
1:53:02
Can you How are you incorporating the research findings into the policy recommendations?
Qiana Mickie
1:53:08
That particular or just in general?
1:53:11
Around the soil research.
1:53:12
The soil research.
1:53:13
Yeah.
1:53:14
So my expectation is once we continue just once we start getting, the opportunity to evaluate and get the research, we will learn, I should mention some of the soil research is not to just to make soil dense.
1:53:29
Sorry.
1:53:30
Not to just make soil rich, but in particular, looking at biochar, looking at rock dust to see if we can make nutrient dense, soil to encourage healthier local fresh produce.
1:53:44
So what we're hoping is is not just to continue the trial, but to be able to evaluate that and help inform that.
1:53:52
But I think once we have that data, it will be great to kind of use that to leverage and inform, different urban act policy on either a, how to scale that, and 2, how to incorporate more viability in soil research in the city.
1:54:06
And and, you know, how to, yep, scale.
