Council Member Amanda Farías inquires about MOFP's coordination with other agencies and their staffing resources. Rachel Atcheson provides insights into their working relationships and current staff size.
- MOFP meets with food-serving agencies at least quarterly through the good food purchasing initiative
- Frequency of meetings depends on specific projects, ranging from weekly to quarterly
- MOFP currently has about 10 full-time staff members, up from 2 in previous administrations
- Atcheson confirms that the current staffing level is sufficient to meet their needs and goals
Rachel Atcheson
0:23:30
Absolutely.
0:23:31
So, so we meet with all of our agencies that serve food, at least quarterly, through our good food purchasing initiative.
0:23:39
It really depends on the sort of project we're working on.
0:23:42
So for instance, within our jail system, we brought a culinary training to Rikers Island to increase and upscale the food service workers on the island.
0:23:52
And we actually just sent out a press release about that last week.
0:23:56
So for instance, with them, we're meeting every week.
0:24:00
Every Friday at noon, we're we're getting on a call and and talking with them consistently.
0:24:05
And so it depends on the initiative that we're sort of advancing with these agencies, but, it's pretty constant communication.

And how would you describe your role at MOFP in coordinating with the agencies?
Rachel Atcheson
0:24:17
We have a wonderful relationship with the agencies in coordination.
Amanda Farías
0:24:21
Okay.
0:24:22
And how many full time staff does MOFP currently have?
Rachel Atcheson
0:24:25
So we used to be in office, under prior administrations, of roughly 2.
0:24:30
We are now an office of roughly 10.
0:24:32
So this administration has prioritized, giving us the resources we need to, advance food policy, under an Adam's administration.
Amanda Farías
0:24:42
Okay.
0:24:42
It sounds like, but I'm gonna ask anyway, this is enough staff to meet its needs and goals?
Rachel Atcheson
0:24:48
This is enough.
0:24:48
Yes.
0:24:49
We are sufficiently funded.
0:24:50
Thank you.
Amanda Farías
0:24:50
Okay.
