Council Member Brooks-Powers inquires about the QueensLink project and Queensway Park, requesting a comprehensive study to understand their impacts. The MTA acknowledges past analysis and the council member's request for a more in-depth study.

  • MTA mentions a 2019 white paper on QueensLink and its inclusion in the 20-year needs assessment
  • Council member emphasizes the need for a comprehensive study considering both QueensLink and Queensway Park
  • Discussion of balancing the needs for open space and transit equity in the affected communities
  • MTA agrees to follow up on the request for a more detailed study
Selvena N. Brooks-Powers

Thank you for that.
2:49:45
And then the last question will be on QueensLink.
2:49:47
I know my colleague asked about it earlier.
2:49:50
I know most of the team here is focused on subway safety, so hopefully, you can answer.
2:49:55
Just wanna know if there's been any internal analysis of the QueensLink project, and the Queensway Park.
Franck Joseph
2:50:03
Yeah.
2:50:03
I'll say that in 2019, there was a white paper
UNKNOWN
2:50:06
Mhmm.
Franck Joseph
2:50:06
On QueensLink, and it it that study is also in our 20 year needs assessment, but we'll follow-up on anything further regarding it.
Selvena N. Brooks-Powers
2:50:12
But did it take into account the Queensway Park?
2:50:15
Ideally, because I know my colleague, council member Schulman, has worked extremely hard on the Queensway Park, and my you know, I think the the best of both worlds is for that community to have their park, but at the same time, that the right of way stays open for the QueensLink for, the communities that we're trying to bridge a transportation gap for.
2:50:38
And so I know we've been talking about it for a couple of years with the MTA.
2:50:43
I really would like to see a a true study, because I know there was white paper.
2:50:48
I know it was included, in in the, document that you mentioned also, and I saw that when it was first released.
2:50:56
But I would really like to understand it, through a true study, to understand what that impact is, to know whether or not this is the right way to go.
2:51:07
Right?
2:51:07
What is the impact on the ridership?
2:51:10
What is the impact on the homes that it may have to traverse?
2:51:14
So we won't know that without a true study.
2:51:18
And, in the past, I've offered also funding to do a study, that the MTA did not, you know, want to accept.
2:51:27
They were gonna lockbox it.
2:51:29
So, you know, right now, I would really love the opportunity to revisit this, to find out how we are able to address the two needs of 2 different communities.
2:51:40
One that wants open space and should get it, And another one that deserves transit equity and should get it as well.
2:51:47
So I do wanna, just to just request that the MTA consider doing a proper study.
Franck Joseph
2:51:56
We hear you loud and clear, and I'll I'll definitely be circling back personally, to talk about this with you.
