Discussion on allowing businesses with high waste volumes to use on-street containers

Council Member Julie Won inquires about the possibility of allowing businesses with high waste volumes to use on-street containers instead of smaller wheelie bins. Commissioner Jessica Tisch explains the current approach and reasons behind it.
- The current model uses wheelie bins for businesses due to the nature of the commercial carting industry
- Challenges include different businesses on the same street potentially having different commercial carters
- The introduction of commercial waste zones will maintain competitive zones, making shared large containers difficult
- Commercial carters currently lack the fleet to support hoisting larger Empire Bins
- While this approach could change in the future, the current strategy focuses on wheelie bins for businesses

I just I addressed this, a bit in Chair Abreu's Q and A.

Right now, the model that we are going with has wheelie bins for businesses because of the nature of the commercial karting industry, meaning you could have 2 businesses next door to each other that have different commercial carders so they couldn't share a large on street container that happens all the time and that will continue to happen even when we roll out commercial waste zones because we have competitive commercial waste zones.

And, also, the the commercial carters are obviously private companies.

And right now, they, to my knowledge, they do not have the fleet to support hoisting the Empire Bins.

That could change down the road, but the go

forward strategy right now is wheelie bins for businesses.

Got it.

And we I would also like to join, chair of Rayo's support for the changes in the fleet so that we can continue to modernize our system.
