  • Trainings include programs for city agencies, building maintenance staff, and NYCHA
Joshua Goodman

We do offer, our own trainings as well, and we've done a number of site visits.
1:41:00
Visits.
1:41:00
We've met with everybody who's asked for a meeting with the SNY to go over it.
1:41:05
We're engaging in continued outreach during what we're in this statutory reporting period now under local law 89 of 2023, where separation of organic waste is required, but we may not yet issue fines, until the spring of 2025.
1:41:21
So outreach is ongoing.
1:41:22
We are working with the community compost organizations to make sure that they're sort of aligned with us and that we're reaching complimentary audiences.
1:41:30
On the sort of smell and storage issue, it's one where I think, again, the the real issue is is just the challenges in making change.
1:41:40
You know, the curbside composting program doesn't create new waste.
1:41:43
It just sorts it differently.
1:41:44
So it it's like that stuff was already in your trash room.
1:41:46
So I'm not I've I've never been really clear on what the issue is there, but we're continuing to work.
1:41:51
We have a dedicated team that does building site visits around this topic, and, you know, we're gonna continue to meet with anybody who needs our assistance.
Shaun Abreu
1:41:59
You you mentioned that you you've had a number of meetings with everyone who's reached out to you.
1:42:04
What what are those meetings
Joshua Goodman
1:42:06
Well, we have I think I
Shaun Abreu
1:42:07
have a number of meetings.
Joshua Goodman
1:42:08
Like, we have a, a number of programs that are different types of trainings.
1:42:16
We have a clean buildings training for city agencies.
1:42:18
We have one for building maintenance staff.
1:42:22
We have one specifically for NYCHA, and we did over 9 we trained over 900 people in f y 24.
1:42:28
We've actually done 750 already in f y 25.
1:42:31
So we're way on track to outpace that across different training types.
1:42:35
All of this is available to sign up for on our website, and then we also share information about it at outreach events and community boards.
Shaun Abreu
1:42:41
What type of in person contact is DSNY engaged in?
Joshua Goodman
1:42:45
So these these trainings, would be one of the main pieces.
1:42:49
We have door knocking still ongoing in the 3 boroughs that just started receiving service.
1:42:54
As you recall, we knocked every door in the 1 to 9 unit buildings in Brooklyn and Queens when their service started, and now we're doing the 3 remaining boroughs.
1:43:02
That includes information about how to get an info session.
1:43:05
So we've got people out there knocking doors now.
