  • 16 automated side loaders ordered for Manhattan Community Board 9
  • $7 million, 10-year contract with Contour for Empire Bins and related services

Alright.
0:33:48
What is the projected cost of the fleet needed to make on street containers feasible?
Jessica Tisch
0:33:55
Joe so I will start, and then I will, let our deputy commissioner of management and budget add some detail.
0:34:03
But, the automated side loading we we buy new trucks every year.
0:34:10
Just, like, normal life cycle of trucks is they get old, we replace them.
0:34:15
So as we go full rollout citywide, as we get, old rear loading trucks that, you know, we would we would need to condemn or get rid of, they could be replaced by side loading vehicles, which, we don't have a final cost for as we're working right now under an r and d contract.
0:34:39
So I don't know what the the go forward cost is.
0:34:42
But the cost of the side loader today, even in the under the r and d contract, is not substantially higher than the cost of our standard collection trucks.
0:34:53
Do you
Shaun Abreu
0:34:53
know what that cost is per unit?
Jessica Tisch
0:34:55
Joe, do you have that?
Joseph Antonelli
0:34:57
Yes.
0:34:58
The cost of an automated side loader is $621,000.
Shaun Abreu
0:35:02
And and about how many of those you think we're gonna need for realizing citywide
Clare Miflin
0:35:07
Oh, I'll give you
Jessica Tisch
0:35:08
for Manhattan Community Board 9, we have ordered 17 of them.
0:35:13
Wow.
0:35:13
16.
0:35:14
16 of them.
Shaun Abreu
0:35:15
So they're coming.
Jessica Tisch
0:35:16
They're coming.
Shaun Abreu
0:35:17
They're coming in the next few months.
0:35:18
That's exciting.
0:35:21
What's gonna be the cost of citywide containerization with with just the the the bins themselves?
Jessica Tisch
0:35:30
So I, I don't think I'm gonna give be able to give you a satisfactory answer, but let me point to the contour contract, which chair 1 referenced.
0:35:43
We recently registered a 10 year, $7,000,000 contract with a company called Contour to provide the large empire bins and the services associated with them.
0:36:00
Everything from manufacture, installation, cleaning, etcetera.
0:36:06
So if we're using, like, very high level numbers, that's about $700,000 a year for Manhattan Community Board 9.
0:36:20
That may not be what the cost is for every district, but I think it's a way of making it less amorphous.
